Born and raised in Wilmington, Dr. Fontana grew up immersed in dentistry having a general dentist for a father and dental hygienist for a mother. A proud Delawarean, he was always certain he would return to live and work in the First State. After graduating high school from Sanford, he attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA for undergraduate studies, double majoring in Biology and Spanish. After postgraduate work in cellular and molecular biology, he attended Temple University School of Dentistry and graduated magna cum laude in 2009. He then attended residency at the University of Maryland and received his specialty certificate in periodontics in 2012.
In 2013, Dr. Fontana purchased his practice from Dr. Steven Nemcic who cared for his patients and built his practice starting in 1980. Dr. Fontana has followed in Dr. Nemcic's footsteps by continuing to offer that same level of care and compassion to his patients.
Dr. Fontana was certified by the American Board of Periodontology after residency and is a member of the American Dental Association, the Delaware State Dental Society, the Kent Sussex Dental Society and the American Academy of Periodontology. He also participates with the Brandywine Study Club and is on staff at Christiana Hospital where he teaches in the General Practice Residency. He has been nominated eight years in a row as a top dentist in Delaware Today Magazine.
When not working in the office, Dr. Fontana enjoys spending time with his wife Jen, family, and friends. He also enjoys home improvement projects including carpentry, electrical and plumbing work as well as hobbies like woodworking and beekeeping.
